In a world with thousands of clothing brands, we are proud of our quality and our cause. Social entrepreneurship is successful because it is bringing personal values to products. How has blindness enabled you to excel as social entrepreneurs?Ĭustomers are tired of companies that aren’t authentic. The blind brothers launch a boutique clothing line based on their sense of touch. The traveler launches a social enterprise working with artisans in India. It creates awkward situations, but it’s taught us how to be comfortable and take responsibility for getting through them.Įntrepreneurship presents an opportunity for each of us to leverage our own unique skills and experiences to build a successful business. It isn’t immediately obvious to strangers or new friends that we can’t see. When it comes to recognizing people, we often stumble through a few minutes of conversation before we realize who we’re speaking with. We use our iPhones to take pictures and zoom in on everything (restaurant menus, airport arrival/departure screens, etc.). We rely on asking strangers for help in most cases. It is our first way of determining quality. When it comes to clothing, we are obsessed with the feeling of the fabric. Our biggest challenges are being able to recognize faces and read small print. Research to cure blindness is moving ahead at great speed, and, by donating 100% of their profits to the Foundation For Fighting Blindness, Bryan and Brad Manning are committed to helping fund that research. Would you trust a stranger to pick out your clothes? What if you weren't allowed to see anything until the order arrived? Brad and Bryan Manning, owners of charity-focused Two Blind Brothers clothing, have asked their customers to do exactly that with the "Shop Blind Challenge." The clothing company invites customers to order a mystery box of clothing, sight unseen - which is how the brothers themselves have been shopping for much of their lives due to a degenerative eye disease that causes increasing blindness over time.
